JOBS AT DEV ACADEMY

Open Roles - Web Developer Teacher

  • Teach Dev Academy’s legendary web developer bootcamp online and in-person in Newmarket, Tāmaki Makaurau

  • Share your passion for coding with the next generation of developers

  • Enjoy a progressive, high support and high autonomy hybrid work environment

This role

We’re looking for someone to teach our web developer bootcamp for students online, and to host students in-person from our Newmarket, Tāmaki Makaurau campus.

Note this is full-time fixed term to July 2025, with possibility to extend.

Key responsibilities

Teach, lecture, mentor and support our incredible students. We do everything we can to guide students through a challenging and transformative learning experience. You will be working alongside other teachers, sharing responsibility for classes, while taking more responsibility for learners in our Tāmaki campus.

Deliver the best possible developer bootcamp for students. We offer a premium course that invests a lot in learners who want a career in coding. Almost all of our students join us because they know someone who loved the course. We want to keep that standard high, and keep learning how we can do ever better for our students.

Help us build a better future. Our mission is to transform lives through innovative, human and inclusive tech education. We are especially passionate about supporting underrepresented groups into tech, particularly Māori, Pasifika, women, and people in the regions.

What we need is

  • Experience hosting, facilitating, or teaching groups of people, ideally in an educational context.

  • Experience developing with web technologies (HTML, CSS and JavaScript).

  • Experience and enthusiasm for teaching coding.

  • Ability to move easily between different contexts – with learners, on tasks, or across online and in-person.

  • It would be great, but not necessary, for you to have:

    • Experience teaching web development in a classroom environment

    • Experience mentoring coders in a work environment

You might fit the bill if

  • You love teaching and learning

  • You have a strong sense of personal accountability for “making it all work”

  • You are adaptable, kind, empathetic, with deep integrity

  • You are able to embed and promote equality and diversity through your actions and words

  • You are into Dev Academy Aotearoa’s social mission of a better, kinder, more diverse tech sector through innovative, human, inclusive tech education

  • Interest or experience with te ao Māori, tikanga Māori, te reo Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi is very welcome

  • A NZ citizen or resident or possess a work permit

Other information you should know

This role is 40 hours per week. We’re a whānau-friendly workplace and tamariki are welcome in our campuses. We have flexible wellbeing leave, 5 weeks annual leave, and a focus on wellbeing for our staff through yoga, flexible working, stand-up desks and annual away days.

We welcome applications from people with non-traditional experience (volunteering or informal settings) and from minority backgrounds and genders. Dev Academy has a strong commitment to Te Tiriti O Waitangi and is working out how to honour and integrate its principles. If you’d like to bring along whānau to speak on your behalf we’d love to welcome you all. Indeed, if you require any accommodations from being flexible on timing due to childcare, mental health or other needs we’re very happy to work with you. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to come prepared and ready for interviews and work!

If you’re on the fence, please apply—even if you don’t tick all the boxes. We’re open to discussion on lots of fronts. We very much want the right person and are open to that looking different than our ad specifies.

We offer

  • An exciting teaching role that will combine your passions for coding and teaching

  • An opportunity to guide the next generation of developers into careers in tech.

  • A super-supportive work environment that is authentic, human-centric, and non-hierarchical.
